We Fell in Love With Our Craft
On December 27th 2017, Crystal and I made the crazy decision to get married. This kicked off a wild ride that would lead to a new-found love of Wedding Design.
I am an Art Director in Dallas and Crystal is a Neuro-recovery Specialist in Addison. Together, we make a crafty couple of nerds, and we couldn't wait to create the wedding of our dreams. We wanted to keep things simple, yet tasteful with just a dash of nerdiness. We wanted it to reflect who we were.
Little did we know, weddings are fucking expensive...
The average wedding cost in the United States for 2017 was $25,764. Couples, on average, spend between $19,323 and $32,205 on their wedding. However, we had a budget of less than $10,000. Needless to say, we were in over our heads. Our wedding dream was quickly becoming a wedding nightmare as costs added up. Like many couples, we learned to set some more realistic expectations and hand-make many parts.
But we didn't want to skimp on the invites. Custom invites can cost upwards of $4000 for 100 sets. Finding an artist you can trust to create something (on a budget) your guests will want to keep forever can be exhausting. Plus many artists don't share their prices unless you call them. The other option is to settle for generic templates with little to no ability to personalize.
Being an profesional artist, I knew I could design our cards myself. However, I'm picky when it comes to paper selection and printers can be expensive. Either I spend a fortune to hire a local printer or send my design over the web and pray it comes back the way I envisioned it.
So we took matters into our own hands... literally.
A new-found love
We got to work. Every little piece was made by hand. Every card was cut, printed, stamped and sealed with our own hands. And we loved every second of it. The work paid off too. Our friends were wowed by our glittery creations.
So we made more… and more…
Before we knew it, we had a business on our hands.
